The brand

Ona Dance was born from a passion for the art of movement and a love of sewing. A pole dance sportswear brand that focuses on the functionality of the garments without losing its sophisticated aesthetic.

The discipline originated by Asian acrobatic artists has had to wait a long time to be internationally recognised as a sport. And for us, it is much more than that.

Pole dancing is art. It is flying. It is developing movements in a personal way that allows you to reinvent yourself every day. Pole dancing is strength, sensuality and overcoming. And at Ona Dance we want to transmit it.

Our mission is to provide our athletes with clothing that will enable them to reach their full potential both athletically and artistically.

Made by and for pole dancers. We design for every person, so that they can find their inner artist and show it off in an elegant way without losing comfort.

Ona Dance is an up-and-coming brand from Barcelona that opts for an ethical way of working and we are proud to show it in a transparent way.

The story

I'm Jess and this project started earlier than you might think. For as long as I can remember, my mother spent hours at the sewing machine because I found a thousand and one reasons to dress up at school.

The only thing that changed over the years is that instead of costumes, I would ask him to change my wardrobe every season.

My mom's name is Mari and she is one of the kindest and hardest-working people I know. Neither of us imagined that after so many years of playing tailor, we would have the opportunity to bring our passions together and share them with the world.

I remember the first time I saw a pole dancer; in a club on the Gold Coast, Australia. I saw her walk towards the pole, I turned around for a few seconds and when I looked back she had climbed 3 metres. I was so impressed that I couldn't get it out of my head. A year later, I finally decided to sign up for my first trial class.

Like many young women, I grew up with the idea that there was something wrong with my body. The day I decided to sign up for that first class, I had been fighting self-criticism, dieting, and using exercise as a way to lose weight for years. I was tired of wanting a perfect body that, I now know, didn't exist. My goal on September 8, 2017 was simple: if I could stand in front of a mirror for 1 hour and a half with minimal clothing, I would end up getting used to it and accepting it. It seems insignificant now, but that decision changed my life.

The first few classes were difficult; I avoided looking at myself in the mirror and never recorded my movements. However, this attitude of rejection towards my body did not last long. The enthusiasm, the joy, the passion for this sport overshadowed all my fears. Without realizing it, I had stopped criticizing myself for how I looked, and instead I had celebrated myself for what I achieved on the bar each session. Without realizing it, I loved a sport for giving me strength and not for making me lose weight.

It is difficult to explain why so many of us describe pole dancing as therapy; the feeling of flying, of creating, of being art… I know that without that trial class at Pole Dance BCN, I would not be fulfilling my dream right now alongside one of the most important people in my life.
